Haiti After the earthquakes

Suddenly, on January 12, 2010, everything changes. A 35-second earthquake and its aftershocks left devastation and chaos in its wake. Much of Jacmel, part of the southern Haiti and Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas’ infrastructure were significantly damaged or destroyed. ] Haitian President   Rene Preval   reported on 27 January that "nearly 170,000 bodies had been counted”. And Prime Minister   Jean-Max Bellerive   estimated that 300,000 had been   injured and some 2 million left homeless by the earthquake

The challenge is now to rebuild the Country . Haiti now needs more than “remittances”. More than ever, Haiti is in dire needs of its Diaspora to direct their time, money and expertise into infrastructure, small businesses, new towns, ecology, schools and local self-determination.
